The labour movement is under attack. It is in the interests of all of us to fight with all our energy and skills to turn back the anti-union assault on our democratic rights.
We are all better off in every way when unions are healthy and vigorous, are protecting the rights of their members, and leading demands for a more just and equitable society. We need more people with Errol Black’s research and writing skills, and his tireless commitment, making the case to the public for the value of trade unions.
This is precisely what the proposed Errol Black Chair in Labour Issues will achieve.
This full-time labour research position will honour Errol by carrying on the work that was his passion for decades: doing highly skilled research and writing that publicly promotes the advantages of a strong and healthy labour movement to us all.
The researcher in the Errol Black Chair will be based in Winnipeg and will work closely with the labour movement across the country to conduct first-rate research that demonstrates, in concrete and practical ways, how unions are essential for “building a better world”. This research will speak to the community through articles in newspapers, union newsletters, CCPA Fast Facts and blogs, and a wide variety of publications that reach ordinary Canadians.
